ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the mechanism of drug resistance mediated by micF gene and outer membrane porin F ( OmpF) in Shigella strains. Methods Shigella strains were isolated from stool samples of patients who presented to the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University with acute diar-rhea in 2015. Antibiotic susceptibility test was performed to screen out the multidrug-resistant and non-multi-drug-resistant strains. The ompF gene was amplified by PCR. The micF and ompF genes at transcriptional levels in the two groups of strains were detected by quantitative real-time RT-PCR. Intracellular concentra-tions of ciprofloxacin in the two groups of Shigella strains were measured by automatic microplate reader. Re-sults According to the result of antibiotic susceptibility test, 13 strains that were resistant to 3 or more than 3 antibiotics were classified into the multidrug-resistant group, while the other 8 strains that were sensitive to all antibiotics used in this study or only resistant to 1 or 2 antibiotic were classified into the non-multidrug-re-sistant group. All of the 21 Shigella strains carried the ompF gene. Compared with the non-multidrug-resist-ant strains, the multidrug-resistant strains showed higher expression of micF gene, but lower expression of ompF gene. The differences in micF and ompF genes between the two groups were statistically significant. The result of correlation analysis suggested that there was a negative correlation between micF and ompF genes (r=-0. 244). The intracellular concentrations of ciprofloxacin in multidrug-resistant strains were low-er than those in the non-multidrug-resistant strains (P<0. 001). Conclusion The decreased expression of OmpF was one of the possible mechanisms of multidrug-resistance in Shigella strains. The micF gene was negatively related to the expression of OmpF. Moreover, the decreased intracellular concentrations of cipro-floxacin in multidrug-resistant strains might be related to the decreased expression of OmpF.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the myocardial enzyme spectrum of native mountain yaks ( Bos grunniens) , alien mountain yellow cattle ( Bos taurus domestica) and low altitude yellow cattle breeding in Qinghai plateau, explove the mechanism that the native mountain yaks adapt to the plateau environment. Methods The samples were treated by cervical bleeding to death, and whole blood was collected. Then serum were prepared from whole blood. The myocardial enzymes including aspartate amino transferase, creatine kinase, creatinine kinase-MB isoenzyme, lactate dehydrogenase, α-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase and. Results In the native mountain yaks and in the alien mountain yellow cattle, levels of AST, CK, CK-MB were significantly higher than those in the low altitude yellow cattle (P<0.05);compared with the alien mountain yellow cattle, levels of AST,CK were significantly higher than those in the native mountain yaks (P<0.05),CK-MB,LDH and HBDH were lower(P<0.05).The results suggested that under the high altitude and hypoxia environment, myocardial cell injury occurred in the alien mountain yellow cattle, thus various enzymes penetrated through the cells into the blood circulation, lead to the higher serum enzymatic levels. Conclusion The phenomenon indicates that the alien mountain yellow cattle is in a state of high altitude acclimatization. But the native mountain yaks are well adapte to the high altitude and hypoxia environment.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: There are about 20 millions people suffering from mental retardation in China and about 200 thousands newborns of mental retardation are born every year. Mental retardation in children is a result of multiple factors.OBJECTIVE: To explore the popular causes of mental retardation in order to provide scientific evidence for effectively preventing mental retardation.DESIGN: An observational case study taking children with mental retardation as the subjects.SETTING: Population and family plan institute of a hospital.PARTICIPANTS: Totally 1 336 disabled children in 6 counties of Tai' an city diagnosed by family planning authority from January 1998 to December 2001 were selected. Inclusive criteria: intelligence quotient(IQ) < 55 and met the condition of disabled children, aged over 4 years old, those whose parents requested to give birth to the second baby due to mental retardation of the first children. Exclusive criteria: Disabled children with diseases of other systems. A total of 613 disabled kids met the above standards, aged from 4 to 14 years old, including 509 boys and 104 girls with the ratio of boy to girl of 4.9 to 1.INTERVENTIONS: All the children with mental retardation were examined by professional pediatrists and experts of family planning medical appraisal and conducted IQ test by using Chinese Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children(C-WISC). Uniform survey was made according to all the data and processed by SPSS10. 0.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The main factors caused mental retardation in kids.RESULTS: Among the 1 336 disabled kids in Tai' an city, the incidence rate of mental retardation was 45.88%. There were 112 mild cases and 501 severe cases with mental retardation among the 613 disabled kids. The component ratio of etiological classification on prenatal, perinatal and postnatal factors was 36.7%, 29.85% and 13.21% respectively, and 20. 23% of them were caused by unclear reasons.CONCLUSION: It is the key mean to prevent the occurrence of mental retardation by reinforcing maternal health, improving obstetric quality, preventing acquired disease and paying attention to early education.

ABSTRACT

The ingredients of compound "Baxianjiangtang" are Radix Rehmanniae, Radix Polygoni Multiflori preparate, Rodix Astragali, Radix Ophiopogonis etc. Pharmacological tests showed that it can decrease LPO and increase the activity of SOD in blood and liver of Alloxan induced diabetic rats and mice.It also increased that phagocytosis of phagocytes of experimental anim als. It can increased tolerance to fatigue at low and high temperature conditions. According tothe above results, it can be considered as safe and effective.

ABSTRACT

Objective To know the cognition of residents of middle or small cities of China on adverse effects of indoor air pollution on human health. Methods 208 pupils of grade 2 to 4 were randomly selected in 2 primary schools in Taian city, and their parents were asked to fill in the questionnaires in May,2008.Results 72% of the total investigated families moved into their new houses within 3 months after the interior decoration was finished, and only 2% of the investigated families monitored the pollutants concentration after the decoration was finished. Most families hadn't the correct concepts on decoration pollution.52.88% of the investigated families considered that the newly decorated house should be safe if the green materials were used in the decoration.47.12% considered it was safe if no abnormal odor.39.42% said that indoor pollution could be eliminated by air refresher.55.76% to 62.5% of the investigated families hadn't the knowledge that furniture and fibrous materials may cause the indoor air pollution. As for the harm of decoration pollution, most families(above 50%) knew, but a few, such as cancer, leukemia and respiratory diseases.63.46% of the families did not really know China's policies and regulations on interior environment inspection. Conclusion In our country,it is very important for the prevention and control of the air pollution related diseases that the whole society should pay more attention to indoor air pollution and human health.
